This is the first post in a 3 part series on Simple Summer Style. These posts are going to come at you quickly over the next two weeks, because procrastination. And, we did move. Let’s go with that. It was solely the move that kept me from sharing these looks. That sounds better doesn’t it?! My style this summer has been all about breezy comfort. I don’t know if breezy is an appropriate adjective for clothing, but maybe you ladies will know what I mean. With wrangling small children, my core body temp can increase 20 degrees even without the difference between a/c indoors and the outdoor heat and humidity. Hence the need for breezy comfort. Are you feelin’ me?! It was plenty breezy the day we took these photos. As evidenced by my anger at the wind (I’m so intimidating and scary right?!)
This first look includes an adorable long sleeved dress I purchased from Francesca’s. I LOVE this dress. They (and by they I mean only the designer of this dress) finally took into account that dresses need to be cut longer in the back! Can I get an AMEN?! Seriously, why is this not a thing?! Everybody has a little bit of junk in their trunk, and being someone without a lot of junk in that region I think I can safely say that it doesn’t take much to make a little extra length in the rear a necessity. I pretty much avoid trying on short dresses like the plague, because let’s face it being above average height is also not accounted for with most dress lengths these days. When I turned in the dressing room and noticed that the back was not 4 inches shorter than the just-barely-comfortable front length, I was sold.
Also, the lightweight fabric of this dress literally makes it feel like you have nothing on! I mean this is the good “I can breath in spite of the heat and humidity” way, not the bad “dreamt you were naked in front of a large crowd” way. haha Basically, it is my definition of breezy comfort. I think I’d better trademark that. Next summer, when you ask people what vibe they were going for their answer will be breezy, rather than boho or festival. Just wait for it.
I paired this look with colourpop’s satin liquid lipstick in Mess Around. I know, I know, summer is supposed to be all about the bright colors, but I CANNOT get away from dark lips. They give me life. Seriously though, when you are as pale as I am, deep lip colors make you look alive. Try it. But you are likely not as pale as I am, because it is summer and your skin may like the sun. My skin apparently doesn’t care about it anymore.
Gold jewelry (OF COURSE!) and the comfiest wedges I have ever owned, completed this look! I found the chunky necklace at Forever 21. Their inventory changes constantly, so they may not have this exact one, but it is a good place to check out if you are looking for inexpensive, trendy options! I found these wedges on clearance at Target and they were magically my size! It was a happy day!
As of this post date the dress is still in stock and on clearance! They only have size x-small and medium left, so get it quick if you are interested! Click here now! (I always love when model info is included on the site to help me select a size, soooo I am 5’10”, weigh 140lbs and wear the size small.)
Doesn’t everybody go out on a ranger to find the perfect spot for photos? Oh wait, that’s just my sister and I, “the farm girls that lost their way” as our dad would say. haha!
What has been your go to style this summer?! I would love to hear your suggestions below!
