The days and nights and even weeks tend to run together around here. As a family, we are in a busy season of life. Mark is back at work (he was off for the summer) and school (his bachelor’s degree), I am putting more time and energy into my creative ventures, and Greyson has started preschool at home. Let’s just be real here, life is a little crazy! Ok, maybe a LOT crazy. If I am not intentional about doing otherwise, it is easy for me to allow the feelings of overwhelm to take over and flow from me in grumbling of all kinds. With two littles watching my every move, I want them to see a mama who is putting great effort towards remaining grateful and gracious in spite of the busyness. In reality, they cannot comprehend what it means to be busy yet. The only things on their agendas for each day are eating, playing, and watching their favorite shows. That’s what makes a three year old saying “I’m sorry Mommy, I’m too busy” so comical. (Yes, that has been said on more than one occasion in our house. Ha!) But, guess where they got that from?! This Mama. Who often walks around saying “I’m too busy right now, buddy!” And, often not in the best tone of voice. They need a Mama who slows down to savor moments of joy, whether it be their joy (which gives this mama much joy) or her own! Below are 5 things I was able to find joy in this past week.
Footie Pajamas | I know, I know. They don’t sound all that exciting, but let me tell you, they have brought a lot of joy to this house this week. We did away with footie pajamas a long time ago because we were OVER the struggle of having to undress a child for middle of the night diaper changes. With that no longer being an issue, I picked up a couple pairs at a second hand store for Greyson. To say that they were a hit would be an understatement! He LOVES them! He even says they are “cozy yummy”, a sweet little phrase that he used to say when he first started talking. They have also provided us with some laughs concerning potty time. Greyson has always been one to wait until the last minute when he needs to go number 2 and typically runs through the house yelling “I gotta poop, I gotta poop!” like the whole neighborhood needs to be aware of this fact. The footie pajamas add to the comedy as he urgently tries to get out of them (he still needs to be pants-less for number 2) while continuing this normal routine of running through the house yelling. Haha!
Sweet Faces & Animal Sounds | Henley skills of expression are developing everyday! We have entered the animal impersonation phase, which I LOVE. What in life is cuter than a tiny little “roar” coming from your little ones lips?! Or the monkey dance?! If I can’t slow down and find joy in these things, I am seriously missing out!
Discipleship | I recently joined a discipleship group with 4 ladies from our church. It is such a sweet time of genuine sharing, prayer, Bible memorization, and building one another up. My heart has been so encouraged by this time of rest during the week. AND our children play so well together. The sweet friendships they are building are a joy to watch and I know that they look forward to the time together as much as we do!
Brotherly Love | The boys are developing such a sweet bond. As Henley is becoming more expressive, Greyson is responding in kind to him. It is seriously adorable how excited he gets when Henley wakes up from his nap. They have also been playing in their playroom together without me needing to be right there! This is huge! Mama has needed some time to get stuff done that isn’t just TV time!
The Office | It is so fun to snuggle and laugh with my love about the ridiculousness that is The Office! My bro got us hooked on it again in the summer, so we try to watch an episode here and there. (Or 4! Because you can never really watch just one episode of The Office, can you?!) Haha! I like to consider this our date night in.
It has been soo good for my soul to create this list. My hope is that coming up with this list on a Monday will help me to be intentional about slowing down to savor those moments of joy we come across this week. What did you find joy in last week? Please consider creating a list for yourself! I’d love for you to share in the comments!
